this small-sized set of three cookbooks comes in a bright green, sturdy cardboard slipcase. each cover features vibrant colors.
it's rare to find this set for sale at all, but especially rare with all three cookbooks in nearly perfect condition, complete with the sleeve. the case on this set shows much more wear than the cookbooks, but it's still in pretty good condition. the green slipcase features gold-flecked sparkle.
this set fits into a small-sized kitchen, such as a camper or an rv or a tiny house or an apartment. it's so pretty to display, full of retro charm, yet equally useful with lots of yummy food and drink recipes to try.
each of the cookbooks is written by helen evans brown, with some of the recipes published in "sunset magazine." some of the drinks are created by philip s. brown.
the first book is "a book of appetizers" and gives 145 recipes, from hawaiian teriyaki to chinese chicken in paper. its cover looks somewhat southwestern, with horizontal brown and golden-tan stripes and turquoise, cream, and dark orange diamond shapes. it was published in 1958.
the second book, "patio cook book," features 141 recipes, an eclectic mix, from chicken liver dip to chocolate sour cream cake frosting. the cover is extra bright green and cream vertical, wide stripes with a red and cream title box. it was first published in 1951, with a second revised edition in 1959 and this third printing in 1964. it includes appetizers/drinks, soups and sauces, entrees and broils, salads, veggies, and desserts, with a focus on outdoor dining.
the third book is titled "chafing dish book." it divides its 141 recipes into four sections: appetizers, entrees, vegetables, and desserts. it was originally published in 1950, with second to fourth printings in 1951 and 1952, a fourth revised printing in 1958, and this edition the sixth printing in 1963. chafing dishes started out being foods formally cooked by a butler, then over time, became casual meals by a home cook. the cover is deep red with an overall floral pattern in peach, yellow, brown, blue, and green.

i found this set outside a tiny missouri farm town in an antiques store. i'm pretty sure it's a one-owner set, based on the good condition.
