wow. even nearly 30-years-old, this book is in fantastic condition.
the illustrations are dramatic and inventive. the book is a classic in children's literature.
the only "flaw" in this entire book is the former owner's name written in black (m. dill) on the title page. see the photo.
this is a story adapted from an ancient norse tale, "the lad who went to the north wind." the story is retold here by freya littledale, her text copyrighted in 1971. it is beautifully illustrated by troy howell, those copyrighted in 1988.
this paperback edition is a collectible, the first scholastic printing, march 1988
an easy-to-read folktale for ages 5-8, this is an especially lovely example of high-quality children's literature. i'm a 25-year+ member of the society of children's writers and illustrators, so especially particular about buying books for children.
i found this paperback at an exceptionally clean garage sale, where multiple families sold many books in extra-nice condition. i remember reading this story aloud to my own four children, now ages 30 down to 14. we have our own scholastic copy that looks just like this one, except this one is in perfect shape and ours looks more worn.
