first, i will admit that the snowman in this book comes across a wee bit, well, um...ok, i'll say it: creepy.
but i do remember this book from my childhood and it didn't freak me out back then. so, i felt like the book needed to come home with me when i spotted it at an extra-nice garage sale.
the book is 45-years-old and noted as an "authorized edition" by charles tazewell, also the author of "the littlest angel." the book is illustrated by george de santis and published by wonder books/new york, a division of grosset & dunlap, inc.
wonder books was a successful line, well-known and beloved for many years, something comparable to golden books in those days.
the inside front and inside back cover are both illustrated, something common back when the book was published. these days, most books are typically blank on the inside front/back covers.
the book is in great condition. it shows a bit of aging here and there, but is overall in very, very good shape. the only flaw on any page is the name "dill" written on the title page.
idea: vintage books make adorable christmas/winter decor. stand this book on a small easel or stack it on a coffee table with other vintage books.
maybe a grown-up you love used to be a kid who loved this book or was born the year it was published. what a wonderful gift it would make!
come on. don't you really, really need a vintage christmas book with a flying snowman on the cover?
bonus: the snowman is carrying six ice cream cones! nope, a snowman with ice cream doesn't make a lot of sense. but who cares? it's ice cream!
