i fondly remember reading this book aloud, over and over to my children. i did different voices for each of the three owl babies (sarah and percy and bill) and a soft, grown-up voice for the owl mother. it is a sweet, gentle, comforting story, so timeless that it continues to stay in print and remain so well-loved. it makes a lovely pre-naptime or bedtime book, read quietly with a hushed tone.
most little ones miss their parent(s) and worry about where they are. even baby owls do this, too. baby bill will especially be adorable as he responds, "i want my mommy!" to each logical thing big sister sarah and big brother percy tell him.
the original 1992 story is by martin waddell, with the illustrations by patrick benson. the book was first published by candlewick press (cambridge, massachusetts).
this edition is a very, very special one, the first scholastic printing, done in 1996. this version was printed in italy.
this copy has one flaw on the cover from a price sticker being removed and causing damage. it is over the "es" in "owl babies" and over the end of illustrator patrick benson's last name.
if you look very closely, you notice the top right back cover and some middle pages of the book showing signs of a little one's nibbles.
the edges have some minor wear.
the back cover's upc label has some words in black marker, covered in black marker.
pre-owned, but in fair condition. most importantly: the pages of the story itself look mostly perfect. it has no writing anywhere inside the pages. please look carefully through the photos. the book is from a non-smoking home and is not an ex-library book.
