this classic, beloved series by laura lee hope was published by grosset & dunlap/new york. this vintage 1930 book comes with a rare, intact book jacket.

vintage items come as-is. please click through all the photos carefully.

a sweet vintage birthday inscription appears on an inside page:  "to judy on her 9th birthday from mother & daddy"

this book jacket is in terrific shape. the book itself is also in very, very good shape. the only flaws:  a tiny bit of aging around the edges and the inside book cover illustrations being embellished by a young reader (probably a creative nine-year-old named judy), who colored in some of the red-and-white line drawings with a bit of crayon (see the photo). the back inside cover illustrations have no crayon.

i discovered this book and many others in a tiny town's antique store on the square. the elderly owner was a lifelong, passionate book collector. the store is in an old five-and-dime store, with most of the inventory being shelves and shelves of vintage books, including in the store's old, swaying freight elevator!

this store is where i learned something important:  the store owner emphasized to "always, always keep the book jacket."

i am guessing judy was the storeowner's daughter. many items for sale included items from their family. but i didn't ask. i like a mystery to sometimes stay unsolved. it's more fun that way when it comes to wondering about vintage items and the stories behind them.

psst. I bought ALL the bobbsey twins' books at the store. i'm keeping most of them for myself, but two of the books had two copies of each.

the book is marked lower, due to the crayon on a few pages.
