the jumbo-sized pieces for each completed two-piece puzzle match are perfect for littlest hands. the matching game is designed for the youngest ones, age two and up.

from a tractor or farmer to the barn, the game comes with 15 sets for a child to match up. it is impossible to do it the "wrong" way, because the wrong pieces will not match. children can learn cause and effect as they problem-solve all the matches. they will learn patience and improve their physical hand/eye coordination.

little ones need multiple types of play. a phone or electronic device definitely keeps their attention. but a physical kind of game is so good for their brain and their body. matching is a way that works both the mind and the physical coordination.

at first, a parent or grandparent can quietly provide help. but in time, the child will take great pride in being able to figure out all the matches independently.

practice language skills as the child plays. if the child does not say the item's name, ask him or her to do so. if it is an animal, ask him or her to make the animal's sound. ask a child to name the colors in the completed picture.

you may be a preschool or primary grade teacher. this game is a great set for your classroom.

if you are a homeschooling family, this matching game is an excellent short-term activity for a younger child if you need to focus on an older child at the moment. in order to build up the child's confidence and language, hold up two different activities (like a book or a toy or a game) and ask the child which they would like to do right now.

additional ways to use this game:

-as a child gets older, ask them to arrange the sets alphabetically;

-have an older child make some matching sets of items and create their own game or a game for siblings;

-ask the child to name other items someone might see on a farm;

-use the words in the matches as spelling words;

-try to create compound words from the words in the matches ("barn" into "barnyard," for example).
