this pitcher caught my eye in an antique store outside columbia, missouri. it's extra-large and classic speckled graniteware.
when i picked it up, i said, "whoa!" it's extra heavyweight. on the bottom, i saw u.s. navy and immediately realized this was something so special.
this would make a thoughtful gift for any military collector or any navy veteran. it's so pretty.
graniteware from the 1940s (u.s.n. printed in white on the bottom/thf vollrath co.)
the color is very dark blue, appearing almost black, with the traditional graniteware white-speckling
size: 10-1/2" tall/11" wide spout to handle (much, much larger than a typical pitcher)
condition: the sides of the pitcher all the way around look great, except for one spot near the bottom. the handle looks good, but has a section with smaller rusty spots, though none look as if they affect it. both sides of the spout look new, except for the price sticker residue (i did not attempt to scrub it off, but believe it would be able to be removed). the bottom has a smaller section of dark rust, but not at all rusted through and still looking good overall. most impressive, the inside of the pitcher looks great, except for a very small rusty spot at the bottom. none of the rust is a major issue and you have to look closely to see most of the places (i missed most of them at first).
