kids love making things. this kit takes children back decades to some of the 1970s popular crafts. as a kid, i often made funky, colorful potholders and gave them to my mom, aunts, and grandmothers. i loved making up new patterns.
things change. in the old days, i bought the potholder loops in big bagfuls. each bag specified how many loops were included. this modern-day kit weighed the loops. it says 5 ounces' worth (SO strange!), but it does look like a good amount.
also, when i made potholders, i never used the needle to pull through the loops and weave them up and over each other. but that is a preference. you can do it either way, obviously.
with so much of our lives fast-paced, this simple activity lets a child use their own creativity, choosing how to make their own color patterns. it improves their coordination, letting little fingers weave a loop in and out. kids need more hands-on activities. it is important for development.
