you can't get more man cave-y than this awesome-looking tool. the owner of the small antique store in garibaldi, oregon said this was from their out-of-business metal-fabrication factory and was a roller designed to smooth down the edges of the metal sheets.
if she was wrong, perhaps it's something from a printing press or newspaper company. it looks as if you could roll it through ink and onto other surfaces.
the primitive-looking piece features a nicely-made wooden handle. someone drilled two holes into the handle to make it easy to hang up. the back of the wooden handle is flat, so that you can set it down while working and it doesn't move.
the crazy-heavyweight cast iron roller is attached to the handle with iron and screws. the roller is about 2" wide and 2" tall. it was made with an indented center that runs around the entire roller.
the aged coloring adds to the charm of this tool. it looks well-used, yet as if it could easily last another hundred years. fred flintstone may have used it...
the tool is about 8" long. it may be something called a hand-seamer, used by a tinsmith "beading" sheets of metal.
it could be used for crafts, maybe around the farm, or simply as decor in a kitchen, garage, man cave, family room, rec room, workshop, office, business, or farmhouse-themed area.
