this little paperback treasure came straight from my husband's first car, a 1977 oldsmobile delta 88 royale. the small-sized atlas is in pretty darned great shape, considering the eight states we've lived and the number of times we used this atlas.
inside, the beautiful maps are just the right size for framing. if you break down this booklet, you have a number of gorgeous vintage pieces of artwork. the maps are not your typical regularly-shaped state maps. they are unusual and would look even more interesting framed, because of this.
the book includes all fifty states (sometimes geographic areas combined), plus a north america map and u.s. map (with alaska and hawaii only included in miniature), canada, 17 metro-maps of baltimore, boston, chicago, dallas-fort worth, detroit, houston, l.a., miami, minneapolis-st. paul, new york city, philadelphia, pittsburgh, st. louis, san francisco, seattle-tacoma, tampa-st. petersburg, and washington d.c., and a u.s. road mileage chart inside the back cover (the distance between locations).
the only flaws: some spotty white and a little fading of the red on the front/back covers, plus a division problem scribbled in inkpen on the back cover (very small). the book is somewhat bent, but the maps inside all look good. take a look at the photos and you will see exact condition.
home-schoolers could:
- study the differences on a recent map with the one in this book;
- look up a location for a historic event;
- do a unit on the 1980s and how culture, technology, and our country have changed since then;
- study car-related items, including our interstate system and how it came about, the parts on a car then and now, and the costs for a new vehicle, a gallon of gas, and a family road trip then and now.
vintage item, as-is
