the darker tones of this beautiful cover reflect the somber tone of the article about president john f. kennedy's widow.
her article is titled, "kennedy memorabilia/mementos of the president are put on exhibit: 'these are the things i hope will show how he really was," written by jacqueline kennedy. she is pictured in a full-page photo. the article includes photos of jfk's rocking chair, a painting he did, a letter he wrote to his father giving the reasons he wanted a higher allowance, a model ship given to him by the russian premier, scrimshaw carvings, two wood-carved killdeers given to him by mrs. kennedy, an 500 b.c. bronze Greek statue, and an ancient roman head he gave mrs. kennedy.
the article and photos cover pages 32-34a, with an additional, related article and photo by richard b. stolley, "work, memories, old friends."
the magazine is mostly in very, very good condition. the front cover's address label was pulled off. pages 1-2 have a small hole. page 3 has a small section torn out. the ads on pages 35-36 has a lower section torn off the pages.
the pages include so many vintage ads that could be framed.
note: one article about a play could be upsetting. it speaks of the slow movement and changes of the civil rights era and the 1960s, titled "a burst of negro drama." an actress' dialogue speaks of one teen girl's experience at little rock central high and uses the "n" word to show the things yelled at her, page 67.
