because i love horses, i smiled when i spotted this book in a basement family room during a nice estate sale. i picked it up, my eyes then falling on the author's name: john steinbeck. the john steinbeck? he wrote a children's book?
yes. and yes. though i write for children, i didn't realize this.
in my defense, it was published about 20 years before i was born.
i sensed this book might be something special. at the very least, it was truly beautiful. its charming illustrations by wesley dennis made me smile even more as i slowly looked through the book.
i turned back to see the publication date--1945? what? and the book looked this good, basically brand-new?

in outstanding shape, it is gorgeous. this special hardcover book could make a wonderful gift for any book collector, john steinbeck fan, cowboy or cowgirl, or as a baby shower gift for an adorable wild west nursery.
at 131 pages, the book is a chapter book and an unusual 9.5" x 7" size. this adds to the feeling of it being something unique and high-quality.
during my research, i found others for sale in a huge range of prices, going way, way up to extremely high numbers. i feel that my book is in exceptional condition and tried to list my price at a lower-end for a fair price. i believe it's probably worth far more. so whether collector or re-seller, it's a bargain.
